Our Second Project 2008 – Mactzul 2 Sector 1
February 23 to March 1, 2008

Mactzul 2 sector 1 is a small mountain village northwest of Chichicastenango.  Although the classroom building plans were the same as last year’s, the construction was not on the side of a hill, but in a field cut out of a hillside. site before construction began
Old school as work begins on the new.
This presented different challenges.  The village had two classrooms in an adobe building painted aqua blue.

Like most mountain schools, they had an outhouse facility.  We provided a new latrine including what turned out to be the only three flush toilets in the village (and as best as we could determine the only flush toilets within 25 miles).  tug of peace
Volunteers and children join in tug of Peace.
This was experimental. Someone will have to teach the children to use the flush feature. We will know next year whether it is worthwhile doing again.

There was much contact with the students doing a map project, drawing cartoons, teaching them English phrases, flying kites, playing football and dodge ball
